Academy Award winner in 2015 for his soundtrack to Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel, Alexandre Desplat has already won two Golden Globe, two Grammy Awards, two BAFTA, three César and has become one of the most brilliant composers of his generation. Film after film, Alexandre Desplat develops his own style, his singularity and his incomparable art to produce a special tone, an identity for movies as different as Jacques Audiard’s A prophet, Peter Webber’s Girl with a Pearl Earring, Stephen Frears’ The Queen, Roman Polanski’s The Ghost Writer, Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape Of Water, Morten Tyldum’s Imitation Game, Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel, Tom Hooper’s The King’s Speech, David Fincher’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and David Yates’ Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Extremely prolific, he enjoys facing the challenge of the many worlds created by directors with the desire to excel by always giving his music an unique feel, a refined orchestration which defines the richness of his writing. His musical eclecticism, inherited from his cultural mix allows him to mix world music or jazz instrumentation in his scores for Argo or The Grand Budapest Hotel, or in his Chamber music score for Jacques Audiard’s A Self Made Hero.
During the recording of his first feature film, Alexandre Desplat met the violinist Dominique Lemonnier known as Solrey, she takes a very important place in Alexandre Desplat’s composition, creating a new way of using strings in film music.
